Inflorescence

A child runs barefoot
between the swing set
and willow tree,
across a universe of lawn
while eternal blue
and noonday sun
hover above
her regard.

Among the trampled blades
grow green, triune leaves
and clustered,
purest white florets.

Translucent wings,
black and yellow body
sway a slender stem
unseen.

Underfoot
fierce sting
and stagger,
welter and tears
for a world grown larger,
through a moment
compressed
to one sharp wound.
