Credo
I believe ice cream
is best eaten.
I believe time flies
whether or not
you’re having fun.
I believe a dog
is man’s best friend
says little good
about dogs.
I believe politicians
when they are dead
several years
will cause little more trouble
but are still lying.
I believe food
is the root of all
menus.
I believe televangelists
love God
when He is on their currency.
I believe poets
are worthy of all praise,
free room and board,
an annual stipend
and tax free status.
I believe sweeping generalities
when I agree with them.

This was based on a Read Write Poem prompt about what we do and do not believe. I went a little silly, though truth is often best expressed in humor. But you are the ones who will decide if it is actually funny… or true.
What fun, reading your Credo, Matt!
I especially like:
I believe poets
are worthy of all praise,
free room and board,
an annual stipend
and tax free status.
Reminds me of the ancient Celtic stipends for the bards, including cattle and pasture rights… Those were the days… Mm hmm!
I was thinking of that too, and wishing… But they didn’t have indoor plumbing or modern medicine, so am still OK with life today.
I believe I agree with you, especially on the sweeping generalities.
Hahaha, I like the penultimate one a lot too.
This was excellent Matt, witty and poignant — especially the final couplet… 😉
Enjoyed the read…

I would have to agree about the ice cream.
I believe this is perfect and I believe most of these wide sweeps. A delightful read.
Lovely! And I also think ice cream is best eaten!
Thanks for sharing!

I believe you’re right, Matt! Good stuff.
