Inside Out: RWP NaPoWriMo #4

Today’s Read Write Poem prompt is to write something “inside out”, making interiors exterior and vice versa.  Was a little bit confusing a concept but here is what I did with it.

At the Coffee House

Easter, 2010

Perched on waterfalls
of wood,
people converse
in small groups

surrounded by
shimmering walls
of sunshine
and blood,
by windowsills
topped
with tropical plants

or sit alone
at tall toadstools
and stare
into the brightness
of rectangular stars,

which draw the watcher
into a universe
of ever smaller
rooms.

  1. Our (ancient) indie bookstore just reopened under new management with a nifty cafe section. I’ve been spending considerabe time there lately, so this piece piece really resonates.
    Nice work, Matt.

  2. I love “tall toadstools.” And I know the very tropical plants you’re talking about … I think they’re mandatory! 🙂 Well done!

Thanks for your excellent comments on my RWP #4. I actually acted on one of your suggestions!!!
