NaPoWriMo #12

Jeoffry Smart

A leap upon the window sill
to see the periwinkles
are stuttering again.
I slink beneath chiffarobe
which stands today
with unnatural calm.

Life blurs
its edges into folding wings
and nothing is as it was
a moment before the snow.

Roll upon the singing shadows—
such delicate sweep of corner rooms,
changing appearance through days—
sunlight and white clouds braying
just beyond bay, lozenge-paned windows
lashed by wheat field ocean mist.

I hear the clock sound hours.

Look beyond the touch of any
to the constellations’ sweep,
eyes athwart the sky,
then sleep the day
to dream of chasing
lace curtains and mice.

Here is something to explain the title reference.
