RWP NaPoWriMo #13

Here is the Read Write Poem prompt, suggesting we use a line from a Norman Dubie poem as the first line of our poem.

The Dysfunctional Divorcé

His chapel fell into flowers long ago,
beautiful ruins
he shows each woman he woos,
who then pats his hand
and leaves.

He’s almost come to believe
marriage is best based on lies
woven of daisy chains,
the truth too fragile
to entrust to any
but the dead
or disinterested.

“My life has been
one big field of daffodils
with no neuroses,
my dear.”

Suck it up and be done
with honesty.

Except
that didn’t work either,
scattering church bells
among bleeding hearts.
