Happy Mother’s Day

Carousel

The gentle rise and fall
of a stallion frozen in its stride,
a calliope playing “Over the Waves,”
a blaze of bright colored lights
are enough for imagination
to meet with joy.

Each time circling round
to see parents
wave and smile,
no matter how distant
the memory.

  1. This is a lovely poem on Mother’s Day, Matt. It easily calls up memories from when I was a little girl–waving. Such simple treasures are never to be overlooked as they are priceless.

    Thanks,
    Shari

  2. Thanks for supplying the name of that tune!! I went right to youtube and listened to it (first on accordian and then full orchestra—no calliope, unfortunately) while I read your poem again. Great images and feelings. Splendid!
