I fold a diamond
and a paper dream,
bend the head down
and the eyes appear.
A blink,
alert, knowing,
so I set the wings aright,
hold warm flesh
on my palm.
Flapping, it rises, flies
to my beloved
and reminds her
I near
one thousand.
Then I’ll wish a bridge
we might walk across
together.

A bird at a time and a stone at a time in this bridge and you’ll meet the end of your rainbow. You’ll find love all along the way there. :-*
Thats pretty great right there. Its all good, with the first verse being truly wonderful (in my opinion).
This reminds me of scenes from several (asian) movies. Very serene and beautiful, romantic if I may.
Oh, I love this! So clever, so sweetly romantic.
“so I set the wings aright,
hold warm flesh
on my palm.”
love this part.
Very lovely verse
Couldn’t find you on dVerse Matt, so I came looking…this is just such a lovely poem, there’s a delicate touch….and thank you for the link after, educational too! K-a

Yes…the paper cuts can prove fatal! lol Can’t imagine folding 1000! Wonderful write, Matt…as per the norm 🙂 Love the inspiration as well
Exquisite folding of words and dreams. truly one of my favorites of yours, Matt. And thanks for the wiki link–fascinating, and adds depth to the poem.

I cried reading about Sadako Sasaki, thank you; I had not heard her story. Cranes stand as sentries at the eternal flame of peace. A beautiful poem, I especially loved the idea that the practice brought the bird to life, just as your words brought us the gift of a deeper engagement with life.
Origami love. i imagine the diamond shines like eyes.
love that first line – i fold a diamond and a paper dream….stunning line…very nice.Matt..bkm
Lovely! I remembered immediately my daughter doing cranes at school as I began to read.
Awww very romantic, I hope you get your wish, too~!

Hopefully those cuts are avoidable, 1000 would be a bunch. Very nice romantic feel to this piece too, nicely done as always.
Enjoyed this. Delicate floaty and flying to your beloved. Nice!
exquisite as origami itself–xxxxj I’m at http://parolavivace.blogspot.com …xxxj
I have learned origami in my life and read the thousand cranes book. It’s in my library; I should have another quick read. It was so beautiful.
Great stuff here Matt. I like the way you unfold for us! G.
This is so lovely!!
I had read the story of the paper cranes too, checked out from the library some time ago to read to the kiddos. Wonderful write.
What a beautifully romantic idea… and such a lovely way of expressing it too… (sigh)

very romantic!
I read this and imagine I’m sitting in the Japanese Garden’s meditation house at Shaw’s Garden. It has that kind of structured simplicity about it. Well done, Matt.
fantastic writing….
