Dead Reckoning

The stars
blink to ash,
burned out eyes
in the ebon face
of night.

Linen
strains in a gale.
I sail blind seas
across a shoreless globe.

No landfall
to await,
no star
to wish upon,
I cease to steer,
pray this storm
rolls me
to the deep.

  1. I love the second stanza – it really made me think – the image is so vivid and poignant – the poem is so Zen in my opinion – you have expressed the indefinable – I feel you have shown us something very precious here Matt – I just can’t explain – your poem says it and I hear you
